It can't be Christmas yet!!

But it is!
The trees have arrived and are, without doubt, the best we have ever had. They are full and bushy and glossy and green and you are going to love them! We have a range of sizes available from 5 foot to 8 foot in both Nordmann Fir and Spruce.
We are decorating Holly Wreaths and also have Noble Fir decorations including Wreaths, Table Runners and Centres and Hanging Bunches.
We will be open every day (including Mondays!) during the run up to Christmas.

A Summer to remember!

What an amazing summer we are having! I must admit that during the dark days of March and April we wondered what on earth we were doing trying to grow summer plants when it was minus 5 at night. But what a turn around we have seen! The summer bedding is almost all gone into your gardens but we still have some lovely Non-Stop Begonias that are flowering  their socks off!!
We have been busy growing a great batch of assorted herbaceous plants and they are all ready now - just beginning to flower and looking good. There is a lovely pink Cornflower with beautiful silver foliage and Crocosmias, Heleniums, Salvias,some pretty, dwarf lavenders not to mention an interesting selection of grasses!
We have also got a wonderful collection of Hydrangeas all flowering now. They include several unusual dark leaved varieties some with two-tone flowers. We also have great plants of Hydrangea arborescens Pink Annabelle which is absolutely beautiful - you must come and have a look!!

Mayday Mayday!

I wonder if there is anything more beautiful than an English Spring Day? We've certainly had some this week! The sun is sparkling and the newly emerging leaves are the most beautiful shade of green. This weekend is the best chance we've had this year to go out into the garden (yours or somebody else's!!) and enjoy the wonderful sights. It's possible to believe, on a day like this, that we are going to have the best summer for years and that we will be able to get out and enjoy the garden. It is a good time to plant now while things are still putting on an incredible amount of growth. It's still a bit early to plant out summer bedding or hang out those baskets but it is the perfect time to plan for those things. So come and have a look round the Nursery - get inspired - and plan a summer of enjoying your garden. We are open every day over the Bank Holiday Weekend and we're really looking forward to seeing you!

Time to think gardening!!

So it's a bit cold this morning , and a bit damp but there has been a definite warming up in the last few days which you cannot have missed! It is time to get out there and see what's going on the borders and veg plots. I have been asked so many times in the last week if it is too late to plant seed potatoes and the answer is a resounding NO! We find potatoes will grow whether chitted or not but they don't grow if the soil is too cold so now it is warming up a bit you could think about planting them in the next week or so. You will still be digging new potatoes in late June so all is not lost.
Don't forget that the first day of warmth in Spring is NOT time to plant out Bedding plants and make Hanging Baskets! Stick to the old rules of not putting out tender plants until the last week of May at least and you will have a lovely display all summer. There is a tendency in this modern world of wanting everything all the time but there is a season for everything and things work better if you go with the seasons rather than trying to work against them!
We are looking forward to seeing you again soon and we have lovely displays of hardy shrubs and perennials which can be planted out now. All the summer plants are potted up and growing on now so keep your fingers crossed for some proper Spring weather for us to help them grow well and be ready for you in May!

A New Gardening Year Dawns!

The sky is overcast, it's cold and there's a possibility of snow - it can only mean one thing........................Yes - IT'S SPRING!!!!
You may have heard that we were to move away but this is not happening. We are in the Nursery and today we are potting Geraniums and Begonias ready for May when it will be warm and sunny and you will be in your gardens and loving it! (I am allowed to dream!!) We have lovely stock of soft fruit, seed potatoes, vegetable seeds and of course beautiful shrubs, roses and herbaceous plants all ready to be planted as soon as you like so please come and see us. Jim, Sue and Alison are looking forward to seeing all the regulars again and will be delighted to meet some new faces too!
